Several retailers have also been experimenting with ways to get people to buy groceries online, a habit that still hasn't fully taken off. Although Amazon has been dabbling in the fresh produce arena in certain American markets recently, the acquisition of Whole Foods has upset the traditional groceries industry and also impacted food supply companies.

Whole Foods wove its way into the crowded and competitive Dayton grocers market in 2015, with its first Dayton-area store, in Washington Twp.at 1050 Miamisburg-Centerville Road.
The Amazon-Whole Foods combination, expected to close by the end of the year, could put even more pressure on those chains and other big grocery sellers.

Barclay's analyst Karen Short today noted that another offer could be placed on the table for Whole Foods, prompting her to raise her stock price target for Whole Foods to $48 per share.
