Kidambi Srikanth continued his dream run and grabbed a third successive Super Series final spot at the Australian Open with a straight-game victory over China's Shi Yuqi here on Saturday. He defeated the Olympic champion Chen Long in straight games 22-20, 21-16.
At the end of of a tightly contested first game, Srikanth showed he was not overwhelmed by the occasion when he calmly guided Chen's strong smash across the net to win his second game point. And, Srikanth kept moving the Chinese back and forth on the court, a move that paid rich dividends as he opened up a 9-6 lead.
In the first game, the 24-year-old Srikanth played a flawless net game which troubled Long. Unlike the first game where Long launched a comeback, here Srikanth was in no mood to relent, opening a five-point lead at 19-15. This was also Srikanth'sthird consecutive Superseries final.
At the beginning of the match both the contestants played evenly resorting to an attacking strategy in the game.
