Meantime, the Yankees received another great outing from All-Star right-hander Luis Severino, who limited the Tigers to a run on six hits over 6 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and one walk.
First up is Gary Sanchez, whose testosterone level has been sky high of late anyway with nine home runs in his last eleven games.
UPDATE: The fight in the sixth inning turned out to just be a spark for the Tigers and Yankees.
Sanchez soon arrived from the Yankees bench and clearly landed a body blow to Detroit's Cabrera and appears to land another later during the brawl, while Romine also landed a few of his own. Kahnle was ejected and so was manager Joe Girardi after he came out to argue. In the next inning, Yankees reliever Dellin Betances hit James McCann of the Tigers in the head with a 98 miles per hour fastball. With Miguel Cabrera and Austin Romine tussling on the ground, Castellanos went diving in to try to break things up.
Detroit Tigers fans saw an eventful game on Thursday to say the least.
There are rumors that Gary Sanchez could face somewhere around a five-game suspension, with the New York Yankees star likely facing more harsh discipline than Bryce Harper's four games for sparking a brawl earlier this season.
"I think I still got him by two feet", Judge said.
"I don't know what he was thinking to be honest with you, " Todd Frazier said. "Very, very poor", Girardi said after his team's 10-6 loss.
Then David Robertson came in and hit John Hicks with a pitch.
"I went in there for one goal, and that was to break up Miggy and Romine", Castellanos said. Both benched once again cleared, but less action took place. Betances and Yankees bench coach/acting manager Rob Thomson were both ejected. Romine and Cabrera fought after Aroldis Chapman, replacing the ejected Kahnle, had finished his warm-up pitches.
In the bottom of the next inning however, another Yankees reliever-Dellin Betances-plunked another Detroit batter.
The Tigers apparently weren't done there, because TV cameras also caught Tigers teammates Justin Verlander and Victor Martinez bickering in the dugout, which ended with Martinez having to be restrained because he wanted to go after Verlander.
