The Bulldogs (1-0) were thrown a serious curve early when sophomore quarterback Jacob Eason was injured on a run to the sideline with 6:30 remaining in the first quarter.
Suddenly the Georgia Bulldogs were in the hands of a true freshman for the second consecutive season.
If Georgia is going to do what many have predicted and win the SEC East, then a freshman quarterback could be the one to lead them.
Fromm's highlight of the day came in the second quarter on a first-and-10 at the Appalachian State 34-yard line. Georgia allowed just 284 total yards on the evening, and just 12 first downs. "They've worked really hard", said Georgia coach Kirby Smart.
It looked as though it would be a similar defensive battle to App State's opening game at Tennessee last season that went to overtime when both teams exchanged three-and-out drives. He was aided by senior running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, who combined for 183 yards and three scores.
Eason was replaced by freshman Jake Fromm and there was no immediate word on the severity of his injury or whether he will be able to return to today's game. One reason why is offensive coordinator Jim Chaney really simplified the first few drives for Fromm so that he could get some confidence early on.
RBI to introduce new Rs 1000 note by December
But expectations of various quarters that sizable portion of the demonetised currency won't return has not been fulfilled. Earlier on August 25, RBI had released Rs 200 and new Rs 50 notes that will only be available in the banks .
If the grades were exclusively based off of the stat line at the end of the game, the wide receivers group would probably have ended up with an F. As a group, they caught just four passes for 88 yards, 81 of which belonged to Wims. Instead, Georgia football took a 31-0 lead into the games final minutes and eventually walked out with a blissful 31-10 win. "We don't know the extent (of injury) or how long", said Smart.
It's a little premature to start calling him Wally Pipp. "But you have to give a testament to that defense".
"I was rolling out trying to get a deep shot and they took it away and I took it underneath and guy snuck up on me when I was trying to get the ball", Lamb said. On the bright side, the inside linebackers did a great job of stopping the running backs from getting to the third level and did not miss many open field tackles. Fromm directed the offense with an efficiency that was often absent with Eason last season.
The 15th-ranked Bulldogs will get their first chance to show that improvement Saturday night at Sanford Stadium, when they host Appalachian State. Granted the Bulldogs have a more seasoned coaching staff deploying more weapons against an Appalachian State team that isn't Florida, but it was an impressive debut for a guy thrust into emergency service sooner than anyone could have imagined.
"Minus-yardage plays is another area where we need huge improvement". It's a daunting challenge for any visiting quarterback, much less one who was directing a high school offense a year ago. "The good thing about football is we have another game next week and we will get back on the field stronger".
Beyond pride, the Bulldogs may be counting on Fromm sooner than anyone imagined.
