Myanmar has said a visiting USA official would not be allowed to go to a region where violence has triggered an exodus of more than 400,000 Rohingya Muslims. This comes two days after United Nations Human Rights Chief Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein described attempts by India to deport illegal Rohingya refugees to Myanmar as "deplorable".

Earlier in the day, there were reports saying that Central government informed the Supreme Court that it can not allow Rohingya Muslims to stay in India as refugees since they pose a threat to the national security. Myanmar has insisted that Rohingya insurgents and fleeing villagers themselves are destroying their villages. "When it was told that they (Lankan refugees) are taking part in terror, what was done?"
